Facebook RPMs dropped big? Don’t panic

JANUARY 13, 2026

PUBLISHER INSIDER

🚨 What you need to know this week

1. Early-month RPMs wobbled but they’re already correcting. We saw RPMs come in soft at the start of the month across Content Monetization, which always gets people nervous. But right on schedule, things are stabilizing as volume and advertiser demand normalize. Across our partners and the broader market, RPMs are settling back into the familiar range: roughly $1,000 per 10M qualified views. This is just how Meta’s monthly accounting and ad demand cycles behave. If you’re publishing consistently, nothing is broken. Let the month breathe, keep output clean and original, and the math usually fixes itself.

2. X may be following FB’s lead, moving toward screen-time payouts. Early reports (nothing official yet) suggest X is exploring rewarding users based on how much screen time their content generates, not just raw impressions or posting volume. If that’s the direction, it’s a big deal. But also… not new. Facebook has been built around this exact idea forever. Dwell time, session depth, conversations that keep people around - that’s been the core distribution signal on FB for years. Same lesson, different platform: keep people engaged longer, and the algorithm (and payouts) follow.

3. Facebook just added Competitive Insights to Meta Verified. That Competitive Insights feature people spotted back in November is now showing up inside FB’s Meta Verified. It lets you benchmark your account against others, follower growth, posting frequency, and performance trends, all side by side. Once creators can see exactly how fast competitors are growing and how often they’re posting, strategy tightens fast. For serious creators and publishers, this kind of visibility makes decisions faster and execution sharper.

4. Reels have turned into a multi-billion-dollar business for Meta. What started as a rushed TikTok response is now running at a $50B annual pace across IG and FB. Time spent watching video on Instagram is up 30% YOY, and Reels alone is now on track to generate more ad revenue than YouTube and nearly 3x TikTok. Meta’s AI recommendations finally cracked short-form retention at scale, and when watch time goes up, payouts, bonuses, and distribution follow. Smart publishers should focus on Reels now - those that do are breaking through earnings plateaus, unlocking bonuses, and adding followers at a massive rate we’ve never seen before.

📈 Chart of the week

Vertical videos have a 75% higher completion rate:

What’s happening? Vertical video posts see 75% view completion rates, alongside a 40% increase in engagement and a 30% higher share rate compared to other formats. Viewers aren’t just scrolling past, they’re watching to the end and sharing more often.

What does that mean for you? This is exactly why Reels outperform almost everything else on Facebook right now. Higher completion rates indicate stronger interest to the algorithm, which unlocks more distribution. If you want reach that turns into engagement and revenue, Reels are the format Facebook is built around today.

🧠 Strategy of the week

HOW TO SCALE NEW FACEBOOK PAGES FROM $0 TO $30K/MONTH WITH YOUR POSTING SCHEDULE

1. Limit volume before you earn the right to scale.

More posts don’t equal more reach, especially early on.

New pages perform best at 6–8 posts per day.

That’s enough signal for the algorithm without flooding the feed and killing engagement. Volume comes later once posts are consistently traveling.

2. Space posts so they don’t compete with each other.

Each post needs its own window to perform.

  • Minimum 1 hour between posts
  • No back-to-back uploads
  • Let each post fully enter distribution before the next one goes live

3. Build the feed around a simple content mix.

Start with formats that are easy to repeat and scale:

  • Image posts (commentary, memes, visuals)
  • Text posts (short takes, hooks, reactions)

Once engagement stabilizes, layer in 1 Reel per day. Reels amplify reach and revenue, but only when the page already has momentum.

4. Use repeatable formats, not random ideas.

Pages that grow fast rotate proven formats:

  • Branded viral memes
  • Commentary images
  • Structured text posts

This consistency helps Facebook understand who to show your content to and trains your audience to engage.

5. Post during proven peak windows.

For US-focused pages, engagement clusters around predictable hours in the morning, midday, and evening.

Start with standard peak times, then adjust based on your page insights as data comes in.

Every page we’ve taken to $20K–$30K/month follows this order: rhythm first, volume later.

Pages that are set up correctly are getting approved in as little as 30–60 days, not the long wait everyone used to expect. And this isn’t just for big accounts. We recently saw a Page with around 4K followers get the invite. That tells you everything. Facebook is no longer waiting for massive scale. It’s prioritizing quality,...
