Meta Officially Launches Meta One, and Clickable Links in Organic Posts Are Back
We told you this was coming. While most of the industry was caught off guard yesterday, Publisher Insider readers already knew Meta was building a paid subscription layer with serious implications for page operators. Now it is official. Meta One launched on September 15 with more than 50 features, plans from $2.99 to $499 a month, and 15 million subscriptions and trials already on the books. Here is why this matters more for publishers than for anyone else.
|
|
The headline feature is clickable links inside organic Facebook posts, Instagram posts, and Reels. For years, Facebook deprioritized external links in the feed. Now Meta is selling them back as a paid tool on its Creator and Business tiers. If your operation depends on driving readers off-platform to a website, this is the single biggest distribution shift on Facebook since link reach collapsed.
One distinction worth noting: on Meta's official Meta One page, clickable links in Facebook posts appear under the Business track (from Advanced at $49.99). On the Creator track, the post-links feature is described for Instagram only. Both tracks share the same tier names and prices.
Here is how the tiers break down for publishers:
1. Essential at $14.99 a month gives you a verified badge, impersonation protection, and the Meta Business Agent on WhatsApp. It does not include links in posts or Reels. Its only link feature is a bio link page on Instagram. Good for credibility, but it will not move traffic.
2. Advanced at $49.99 a month is the key tier for publishers. This is where post and Reel links begin: 8 per month on Facebook, 4 on Instagram. You also get custom audience insights on Facebook, a bold follow button on Facebook, featured placement in the Facebook Feed, automatic follow invitations to people who engage with your content, optimized scheduling on Facebook, and 1 support case per month with a real person.
3. Expert at $149 a month expands the allowances. Links in posts and Reels go to 20 per month on Facebook and 8 on Instagram. You get up to 8 team seats, more Business Agent capacity, and 5 support cases per month.
4. Max at $499 a month removes the ceiling. Links in posts and Reels are unlimited on Facebook, 12 per month on Instagram. You get 30 team seats, support cases with no monthly limit, and personalized content strategy advice from a Meta adviser.
The second thing publishers should care about is premium support. If you have ever had a page disabled, restricted, or stuck in a review loop with no way to reach a human, you know what that costs. The Advanced tier opens the door with 1 case per month. Expert gives you 5. Max removes the cap entirely. For any publisher running pages that generate real revenue, having a direct line to Meta when something breaks is not a perk. It is operational insurance that can save a page.
Now zoom out. Meta said the core experience stays free, and there is no ad-free tier. They are layering paid tools on top of the same ad-supported platform. The free baseline is not disappearing, and Meta still needs massive free audiences to sell ads against. But the paid tiers now include distribution levers, not just cosmetics, and that is a meaningful structural change for anyone who operates on the platform.
The opportunity is real and worth sizing quickly. The traffic publishers already drive from Facebook will now be amplified, with links placed directly in organic content and no loss of reach. Stack that with the automatic follow invitations, featured Feed placement, and actual human support, and you have a paid toolkit that can accelerate both page growth and referral traffic. If you run a publishing operation on Facebook, the Advanced tier at $49.99 is the first place to look.
