In today’s issue: why we have stopped recommending politics Pages on Facebook, with some exceptions, five stories moving the market, a publishing business for sale on Publisher Market, and the top posts and pages of the week. |
|
Politics can still be among the most lucrative niches on Facebook. We just don’t recommend it like we used to.
|
|
Last night we posted our list of Facebook’s most profitable niches for 2026 on X. It drew a lot of interest, and a few of you asked the same thing: where is politics, and do we still recommend it?
Our short answer is that politics, whether conservative, left or centrist, can still be one of the most lucrative niches on Facebook. We just don’t recommend it as heavily as we used to, with some exceptions. There are two reasons, and here is how we see each one.
| 01 |
|
It is harder than ever to make work |
Up until the invasion of Iran, most conservative followers were united behind the Trump administration. Since then, they’ve broken into several factions.
That matters for a politics Page. Depending on where the Page lands among those factions, it can lose part of the audience it built.
The workable route looks like narrower micro-politics Pages, each built around one slice of the audience. In our read, that is hard to get right, because every slice needs its own tight read on what a smaller group will respond to.
| 02 |
|
The bigger reason: too many Pages are run badly |
This is the larger concern for us. Too many politics Pages are run badly, and they have flooded the niche with low-quality content.
Many foreign-run Pages are part of that, and a lot of them try to get around Facebook’s rules.
Facebook is especially careful around politics right now, with the US midterms next week. Divisive content gets reported, and reports draw violations. In our read, that scrutiny lands on the whole niche, including Pages that do things properly.
We would not say never. Our read is that politics still fits two kinds of publisher: larger, established brands with proper assets behind them, and Pages run under our Facebook Turnkey Management or Facebook Consulting. Those are the politics Pages we consider safe.
Getting the mix right in politics is difficult. Outside those two groups, we see the risk as high, and we think most Pages starting out in politics today would struggle to make it work.
|
THE PUBLISHER IN A BOX TAKE
Politics still pays, and it is also the niche where a Page has the least room for error. The audience can split, the niche is crowded with Pages run badly, and Facebook is watching closely. That is why we have moved from recommending it widely to recommending it for a short list of cases.
Nobody else has our scale across so many pages, partners and data points, so we see shifts like this across niches early. We share what we see here first.
