  SPECIAL EDITION · RESOURCE GUIDE

Everything you need to know about the changes to link sharing on Facebook.

Facebook is putting a price on links. Since we broke this to you yesterday morning the questions have not stopped, so this issue is the full guide. No news wire today, no leaderboard. Just this.

IN THIS GUIDE

Part 1. What is changing, and what it costs

Part 2. Why this is a massive opportunity

Part 3. The actions to take this week

The Meta One link limit notification inside the Facebook post composer

The notification that started it. Two free link posts a month, then a paywall, rolling out in waves across pages.

PART 1

What is changing

Pages and professional-mode profiles are being moved to two free link posts per month. Past that allowance you can still publish, but the URL posts as plain text nobody can tap. No preview, no click. The post goes out and simply does not work.

Comment links are being disabled in the same rollout. The oldest workaround on the platform, dropping the URL into the first comment, is closing with it.

To get links back you subscribe to Meta One. There are four plans: Essential, Advanced, Expert and Max.

THE PRICES WE HAVE SEEN SO FAR

Pricing is still being finalized. Different accounts, different regions and different people are seeing different numbers. Treat these as sightings, not a rate card.

$34.99/mo Advanced. 8 links in reels, enhanced linksheet, featured in feed, verified badge. Note what is missing: links in posts.
£129/mo Expert, roughly $150. 20 links in posts, 20 in reels, 5 support cases a month with a real person, credit for original content. The first tier that returns links to your posts. US pricing not official yet.
£499/mo Max, roughly $640, seen in one operator dashboard. Meta's own plan documentation lists unlimited clickable links in Facebook posts and unlimited Facebook reels, shared access for 30 people, a Meta adviser call every 6 months, premium human support with callbacks, original content credit.
£9.99/mo The December 2025 test price, per BBC reporting on 18 December 2025. That trial was small and registered news publishers were exempt from it.

Two exemptions are written into the notification itself: links to supported affiliates and links to Meta technologies remain unlimited. Stories link stickers, Messenger, and your bio and linksheet are all still open.

It is rolling out in waves. Some pages have it today and some do not. Open your composer and look at the top row of the post editor. If there is a chip showing a number next to the word link, you are already in it. If there is not, assume you are in a later wave.

FACEBOOK CONSULTING

Facebook rewrites the rules every quarter. We keep you ahead of it.

Facebook publishing is what we do all day, every day. That is why this rollout reached us early, and why our clients had a plan while the rest of the market was still reading headlines. Facebook consulting puts that same read on your operation: what has changed, what it costs you, and what to do about it before the next wave lands. If you would rather hand the whole thing over, Facebook Turnkey Management is us running it with you.

PART 2

Why this is a massive opportunity

Since yesterday the messages have been full of people freaking out. The free ride is over, Facebook is finished, everything is done.

Do not freak out. The read on this is upside down.

Put a price on something and you find out who was serious. For years the feed has carried links from operators spraying twenty a day with no thought about whether anyone wanted the click. That volume is what trained people not to tap. A meter clears it out. The low-quality players get filtered by the cost, and the quality players are left competing in a feed with a fraction of the link traffic in it. Every remaining link is worth more.

Facebook now has a revenue interest in your link working. That has never been true before.

For a decade the platform throttled link posts because links took people off Facebook. That incentive has just flipped. A platform charging you to post a link has every reason to deliver it properly. Expect real distribution behind the links that go out. Expect users to be slowly retrained to click again, because what they see is no longer junk.

What that should mean in your numbers: higher RPMs, higher click-through rates, and the strongest engagement you have had on links in years. The value of traffic from Facebook goes up, and the value of traffic to Facebook goes up with it.

There is a format change hiding in here too. Reels carry clickable links on these plans, 8 on Advanced, 20 on Expert, unlimited Facebook reels on Max. Video has been a reach format on Facebook. It is about to become a traffic format.

The paid tiers also quietly fix things publishers have wanted for years. Real human support with callbacks. Credit when someone lifts your original content. Shared team access without handing out passwords. Anyone who has lost a week to the support maze knows what that is worth on its own.

The honest version: this is very good for professional publishers and hard for small operators on thin margins. A 150 dollar line item is a rounding error at five figures a month and heavy at three. That cost is real and it deserves to be said plainly. But every barrier to entry is a moat for whoever is already inside and operating properly. A scarce, priced, well-delivered link in a cleared feed is worth more than an unlimited free link nobody taps. This might be the best thing that has happened to Facebook publishers in years.

NEW · THE MEDIA ENTERPRISE PROGRAM

Diversify beyond Facebook. Properly.

A week like this one is exactly why we built our new enterprise consulting program. The Media Enterprise Program builds the operating systems for three foundation platforms, Facebook page monetization, Google Discover, and GEO for AI search, plus a systems control room, war room access, consulting calls, team infrastructure design, and lifetime community membership. You are not running a page. You are building a publishing business with multiple income streams.

PART 3

The actions to take this week

1 Check whether you are in a wave. Open the composer on every page you run and look for the link chip. Knowing which pages are affected changes what you do next on each one.
2 Do not panic-buy a subscription. Prices are landing differently across accounts and Meta is still testing. Waiting a week costs you nothing except two free links you were going to spend anyway.
3 Register as a news publisher if you qualify. The sharpest move on the board right now. Registered news pages were exempt from the December 2025 test, no cap and no charge. If you run a real news operation, start the registration in Business Manager today. It costs you an afternoon.
4 Work out what a Facebook click is worth to you. Take your monthly site revenue from Facebook traffic and divide by the link posts that produced it. If 20 link posts clears 150 dollars, Expert pays for itself. If you cannot calculate that number, that is the real problem this week exposed.
5 Spend your two free links on your best converters only. Not your newest post. The one with the proven click-through and the proven revenue behind it.
6 Move everything else to the doors still open. Stories link stickers, Messenger with comment-trigger automations, your bio and linksheet. Stop building anything new on comment links.
7 Start building the reels-with-links workflow now. If links in reels are coming, the publishers with a working video pipeline in ninety days will be ahead of the ones starting then.
8 Keep building beyond the page. A website, an email list, Google Discover, AI search visibility. Not because Facebook is weak, but because a publishing business with multiple income streams gets stronger with every change like this one.

THE FACEBOOK MONETIZATION SUITE

The link rules changed. What your page earns on-platform did not.

Nothing announced this week touches Facebook Content Monetization, the program that pays pages directly for reels, video and post engagement. That side of your page is the foundation, and it is exactly what the Facebook Monetization Suite is built to grow.

Something is moving inside Facebook right now. It surfaced in our community first. One operator went to add a link to a post, the same thing she does every day, and hit a message nobody had seen before: "You can add links to 1 more post this month" Two free link posts a month. After that you pay, or your URLs post as dead text. Even in comments. It is rolling out in waves. Some pages have it. Some do not. Yet. So ask the questions out loud. Is this the end of Facebook as we know it? The end...
