In the last 48 hours X and YouTube each began paying creators just for posting video. Facebook has paid for video for years, and our view is that X and YouTube are following Facebook’s lead. When three of the biggest platforms put guaranteed money behind video, video is clearly a priority for them, and it is worth knowing what they pay for. Four stories follow, and each ends with one thing to do.

X starts paying invited creators for video |
 |
| Video Kickstart Bonus offer screen as shared by a creator on X, Oct 15, 2026. Amounts differ by account. |
What happened: On Oct 15, X’s creator product lead announced Video Kickstart Bonus, an invite-only pilot. Creators post at least 15 vertical videos, each under three minutes, on 15 different days within 30 days. Videos you made and posted elsewhere count, and enrollment closes Oct 30. X’s post text gives no dollar amount. The Creator Studio screen we reviewed shows $1,500, the graphic in X’s own post shows $3,000, and the screen above shows $5,000, so the amount varies by account. Creators also report offers from $500 to $5,000 (reported, not confirmed by X).
What it means for publishers: The bonus has no view requirements and fast-tracks creators into Original Content Rewards. Since X ended revenue sharing on Sep 7, those rewards require Premium, 500 verified followers and 500,000 verified impressions in 90 days. A news publisher can post short vertical clips of its own reporting, field footage and explainers, plus Reels and Shorts it already owns.

YouTube offers a guaranteed Shorts bonus |
 |
| The Shorts bonus invite creators are seeing in YouTube Studio. |
What happened: YouTube began rolling out an invite-only Shorts bonus to an initial group of Partner Program creators in six pilot markets: the US, UK, Germany, Brazil, Japan and South Korea. The invite in YouTube Studio says join by Nov 15, publish 16 Shorts a month for three months, and earn a guaranteed $300 each month plus extra for performance, up to $2,000 a month. YouTube says goals and amounts vary by creator, and one creator reports an invite asking for 12 Shorts a month (reported).
What it means for publishers: YouTube said in August that from Feb 1, 2027, Shorts revenue sharing needs 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days. This bonus pays smaller channels for consistency in the meantime. Sixteen Shorts is four a week, and a newsroom can clip that many from long-form pieces and daily coverage.

Facebook paid for video first |
What happened: Facebook announced its Content Monetization beta on Oct 2, 2024, merging in-stream ads, Ads on Reels and performance bonuses, and said creators had earned more than $2 billion that year, with Reels and short-video payouts up more than 80% (TechCrunch). On Mar 18, 2026, Meta announced Creator Fast Track, which pays $1,000 a month to creators with at least 100,000 followers on Instagram, TikTok or YouTube and $3,000 a month above one million, for three months. Creators post 15 Reels in 30 days on 10 different days. Meta said it paid nearly $3 billion to creators in 2025, up 35%, with about 60% going to Reels (CNBC).
What it means for publishers: Put the offers side by side. X wants 15 videos on 15 days, Meta wants 15 Reels in 30 days, and YouTube wants 16 Shorts a month. Each one is a posting cadence, a guaranteed floor and a demand for original work. Facebook proved the model, and X and YouTube are copying it. The Facebook Monetization Suite hands you the posting cadence, monetization setup and the Facebook Automation Machine that runs the repetitive work.

Why platforms push video: the time is already there |
What happened: Nielsen reported on Sep 10 that YouTube reached a record 14.2% of US TV viewing in July. Sensor Tower data (CNBC, Jan 20) shows Reels at 46% of US time on Instagram in 2025, up from 37%, and 29% on Facebook. The Reuters Institute (Jun 16) found weekly news video use since 2023 up 7 points on TikTok and 5 on Instagram, and down 5 on publisher websites.
What it means for publishers: Audiences already watch on platforms, advertisers follow the time, and platforms pay for the supply that fills it. Video keeps taking a larger share of time, so build it into your mix. The rules in these programs show the format: vertical, under three minutes, your own work, on a schedule. Clip one long piece into several short cuts. Use NewsBomb to see which topics are traveling, then film those first.

THE PUBLISHER IN A BOX TAKE
Platforms pay for video because it fills their inventory, so take the bonuses that fit what you already make. Video is one part of the mix. Text, photos, links, Reels, video and newsletters each earn their place, and text, photos and links still drive a large share of results for many publishers. Move gradually more into video over time, keep what already works, and keep an audience you own. We work with publishers of all sizes, with more than 300 million followers under management, and a balanced mix of formats is what holds up when programs change.
